Alcolin Adhesives

Just Wood are pleased to announce a new range of high quality, high performance wood adhesives from specialist South African manufacturer Alcolin. The adhesives are; standard PVA and high specification Aliphatic resins. The Aliphatic glues are developed by American adhesive manufacturers Franklin International and offer superior performance over regular PVA based wood adhesives.

The Alcolin Professional glue is yellow glue marketed in the USA by Franklin as Titebond 50 and is a highly prized adhesive for luthiers, with Gibson Guitars using it exclusively for bonding their guitar necks to the bodies, but of course, it’s a superior high performance woodworking adhesive for bonding any other projects and has weatherproof properties.

Aliphatic adhesives are formulated to include additional resins to offer advantageous properties including water resistance, fast tack for initial bonding and also to minimise creep in the joints.

Alcolin Ultra is a fully waterproof adhesive designed for use in areas where high moisture is a constant threat; ideal for gluing worktops, cutting boards etc and all external joinery. Ultra is also ideal for laminating timber for use on the lathe as the formula is not affected by the heat generated during turning, a common cause of de-lamination.

For general work Alcolin have developed their own PVA’s a standard white PVA [Alcolin Cold Glue] and a fast set PVA [Alcolin Fast Set].

The standard Cold Glue PVA offers high performance across all woodworking applications, as well as leather, cork and cardboard and most porous materials making it a good general purpose adhesive. It is especially suited to interior work and has a long open time for more intricate assembly operations.

Alcolin Fast Set has equal properties but suits work where a quick initial bond is needed and allows a quicker release of any clamps.

The range of adhesives is available in 250ml and 500ml bottles.
